Your hail claim, step by step.
Filing a hail claim should not be harder than the storm. Here is how it works in Colorado, what your policy actually covers, and what The Hail Spa handles for you.
Comprehensive, not collision
Hail damage is paid under the comprehensive part of an auto policy, the same coverage that handles theft, vandalism, fire and falling objects, according to the Colorado Division of Insurance. If your car carries liability-only coverage, hail is not covered. Comprehensive claims are subject to your comprehensive deductible, which is usually different from your collision deductible.
Comprehensive coverage can mean $0 out of pocket.* *Up to $1,000. Inquire for details or ask us how.
The seven steps
Document the damage
Photograph the roof, hood and trunk in daylight before washing the car. Note the date of the storm.
Start the claim
Call us and we file and manage the claim with your insurer. Or file in your insurer's app and name The Hail Spa as your shop.
Inspection
An adjuster inspects the car in person or from photos. After large storms, insurers often set up drive-in catastrophe sites.
Approval
Your insurer issues an estimate and approves the repair. We review it against the actual damage.
Repair
Paintless repair in our Parker shop, usually 3 to 5 days once approved.
Supplement if needed
If more damage appears once work begins, we document it and submit a supplement for approval before continuing.
Pickup
You inspect the finished panels with us. Every completed repair carries a lifetime warranty.
Deductible
Your comprehensive deductible applies. We can help with it, up to $1,000.* *Up to $1,000. Inquire for details or ask us how.
Your rights in Colorado
You choose the shop. The Colorado Division of Insurance states it plainly: an insurer cannot require you to have repairs made by a specific shop or preferred vendor. It can give you a list of preferred providers and guarantee their work, but the choice is yours under section 10-4-120 of the Colorado Revised Statutes. Your insurer also has to process the claim the same way whichever shop you pick. Read the Division of Insurance guidance.
The Division also warns that the first estimate is not always the final estimate. Shops often find additional damage once repairs begin, and the right move is to document it and get the insurer's approval before continuing. That is the supplement step above, and we handle it.
Insurers pay reasonable market cost for the repair. They are not obliged to pay inflated fees, which is one more reason to use an established local shop rather than a storm chaser.
Watch for storm chasers
After every major Colorado hailstorm, out-of-state crews arrive, set up in parking lots, collect deposits or sign over claims, and leave when the season ends. The Division of Insurance warns consumers about exactly this pattern. Before you sign anything, check that the shop has a permanent address, reviews you can read, and a warranty that will still mean something next year. The Hail Spa has been at 10136 Parkglenn Way in Parker, with a 5.0 Google rating across 64 reviews.

“Chris did an amazing job on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. He went way above and beyond repairing my hail damage by detailing my vehicle without charge. He removed other scrapes, dents and dings not related to the hail damage. He also washed and waxed the entire vehicle along with Armor alling the rims and tires. He even vacuumed and Armor alled the entire interior including my leather seats and added air freshener. My vehicle looks brand new inside and out and even smells new as well. On top of this, he even gave me a $500 Discount. My deductible was $1,000 but he only charged me $500. I am totally blown away by his awesome service and his staff was very friendly and helpful in filing the claim.”
“Chris repaired my two Ram trucks after a large hail storm this summer. I could not have asked for better results and better handling of my insurance during the repair work. He repaired my two trucks faster than a neighbor could get one vehicle repaired. If you need PDR work, take your vehicle to The Hail Spa!!!!”
“They really did a professional job. Hail spa handled everything from getting me the rental car to dealing with the insurance company. The car looked nicer than when I originally bought it. The cleaned it inside and out - detailed clean and even fixed some items that were above and beyond what was required. They also kept me informed all along the way. I would highly recommend them!!”
Questions we hear every week
Will my premium go up after a hail claim?
Hail is a comprehensive claim, not an at-fault collision, and insurers treat the two differently. Only your insurer can tell you how a claim affects your specific policy and rate, so ask before you decide.
How long do I have to file a hail claim?
It depends on your policy. Most set a time limit, and waiting also makes it harder to prove when the damage happened. File promptly, or call us and we will file for you.
What if my car is declared a total loss?
If the repair cost approaches the car's value, the insurer may total it. Paintless repair typically costs less than a conventional repaint-and-replace repair, which can keep a borderline car on the road. We can review the estimate with you.
Can I take the claim payout and not repair the car?
Some policies allow it when there is no lienholder, but unrepaired hail damage is usually subtracted from any future claim on the same panels, and it shows at resale. Ask your insurer before deciding.
Do I have to use the shop my insurer recommends?
No. Colorado law (C.R.S. 10-4-120) lets you choose your own repair shop. Your insurer can recommend one but cannot require it or imply your claim will be delayed if you go elsewhere.
What does deductible assistance mean?
Depending on your claim, we can help with your deductible, up to $1,000. *Up to $1,000. Inquire for details or ask us how.
